Normally, posts and responses are read "continuously"--one following right after the last. You may instead choose to have a prompt between each message.
You may also choose from one of two ANSI message display techniques-- "ANSI/More? paging" where you are shown a page at a time, and "ANSI scrolling" where the message scrolls continously beneath its header.
